Google shares simple three-word policy to avoid burnout

As regular readers of Executive Grapevine will know, burnout is not an issue that has sprung up since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March of 2020. In fact, it was in May of 2019 that the World Health Organisation officially classified the phenomenon as a certified occupational illness and included it in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases.

“Burnout is a syndrome conceptualised as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterised by three dimensions: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and reduced professional efficacy,” the WHO’s official guidance stated.
