A communications agency has challenged candidates’ creativity by declaring that the best caption on their photo will receive a job.
Zambezi, based in California, posted a LinkedIn picture of a man surfing on a shark with the statement: “Calling all copywriters. Best caption gets you a job.”
The recruitment tactic is consistent with the company’s description of itself as a “fully independent communications agency driven by the belief that creativity is, and will always be, the most powerful storyteller.” The photo also ties-in with the fact that they refer to their employees as ‘Sharks.’
Zambezi’s official job advert for a Senior Copywriter states that responsibilities will include contributing new ideas and solutions across all media outlets, and developing fully concise and strategically thought concepts.
So far the LinkedIn post has received over 4,100 comments. Here are a few examples…
“When you know how to ride, your enemy moves you forward.”
“Photoshop: you're doing it wrong.”
“Avoid blood in the water, get on top of your problems and control them.”
“Chuck Norris? Never heard of him.”
“Internet security: Don't make surfing more dangerous than it should be.”
“Another shirtless idiot at Sea World.”
One person commented on the photo with the caption “All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine!” quickly followed by: “Ps. I'm not in need of a job, I love mine.” Highlighting a potential downfall to the recruitment campaign; people commenting for fun and not an interest in the job.
